I am also one of the few persons I know that earn a good living from writing websites. My websites are my "Money-Printing Machines". They earn me money every day, 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and they require only minimum maintenance. Every now and then, I am asked how I managed to do it. I am writing this to help answer that question, and hope that my answer will be able to help you.
What I mean by "earn from writing websites"
When I say I earn from writing websites, I mean I earn from my own websites. I do not write websites for other people - I have been receiving lots of requests from people to build for them their websites, and I always have to turn them down. I am not in that business.
I build my own websites and earn from them, and I recommend that people learn to build their own websites as well. Particularly, if your intention is to make money from websites, you need to be hands on. You need to learn exactly what you need to do. You cannot be a captain who doesn't know how to navigate his ship or a sergeant who doesn't know his gun.
Is it difficult?
Nothing is ever easy, but it is not impossible either. A lot of people who has no prior knowledge of writing websites have built extremely profitable websites. Building a money-making website has nothing to do with technical knowledge, but more to do with the subject you are writing about.
How did I get started?
To be honest, I started building websites as a hobby. I learned to build websites in the late 1990s, using WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) interface. Slowly I graduated to writing my HTML codes and still does that today. When I built my first serious website back in 2003, I did it for fun.
I was clueless that my website will one day be supporting me financially. I never thought it would happen that way, but now that I have made it, I can use it as a template for others to follow. My first website was a travel site that I used to document my holidays. At that time, I have not heard of Google Adsense or any other means to earn money from my sites. It was only later, maybe around 2005, that I learned about Google Adsense and other affiliate programs, and started to add them to my website. The joy in seeing my website make money spurred me to create more websites, basically repeating the same formula.
I went full time writing websites in 2007. Today I have over fifty websites, and creates new websites almost every year.
Can you earn from writing websites, without technical knowledge?
I went through a lot of trials and errors - I made mistakes which I do not realize until I had the benefit of hindsight. I did not have anybody to teach me how to build my websites, so I often grope for information on my own. In addition to learning HTML, I have to register a domain, pay for hosting, learn to upload my websites, check the statistics, and so on.
Today people who wish to earn from writing websites don't have to go through what I went did. I would recommend a system called Site Build It, particularly for those who want to make money from their websites, and have no web-building knowledge. Site Build It is a system that helps people build their website step by step. It offers a 10-part program that guides you from planning your website through to earning from it.
When I started building websites, I have not heard of Site Built It. If I had, it would have made life easier. For people who have no prior experience in building websites, I would recommend that they check out Site Build It.
